A Really Lovely Day Today!

We got to Dan and Philippa’s a bit later than expected today – more like 10:30 than 10 am, but always nice to see them!  They have done so much on their lovely house since our last visit – which was, of course, 2017.  Their kitchen, truly the heartbeat of the house, is wonderful.  They not only have a huge pantry room with full-size refrigerator/freezer, washer and dryer, but they have an additional smaller fridge in the kitchen itself; very convenient!  Then, their cooker – what we’d call our stove – has something like six gas burners plus an electric heating element on top, as well as two very large ovens.  It’s massive, incredibly well built and really beautiful besides!  Truly, one of those stoves any cook would love to have!  It’s just such a lovely area – big island, well laid out with sky lights and lots of windows – lovely dining table -- it was also very warm, which was also a very good thing in my view, as well!

Phil and Dan have also redone their back patio area and yard as well, and it looks really lovely.  They did remove some bushes from the yard to open it up quite a bit and give the boys a great space in which to play, and I understand a new tree house is definitely in the works!  These are very lucky young men!

On Friday’s, Dan works from home, which was great, as Robert brought our laptop with us, and was able to log in and get hours of work done!  He has been working away busily early morning and late evenings, but it was wonderful having a real block of time today to get things accomplished.  Phil and I had plenty of time to catch up, which was great!  Phil made lunch for us – wonderful BLTs with homemade jelly roll for dessert.  In the afternoon, both Hugh and I helped Phil work on her Tudor jigsaw puzzle – in fact, Hugh and I worked on it while Philippa put dinner together … and we did such a good job that we didn’t leave too many pieces left for Phil to do!  (I feel really guilty about that, but Hugh is really good at puzzles, and the pieces just sort of started falling into place…)

Dinner was wonderful!  A fabulous chicken dish with a mustard cream sauce, three different perfectly cooked veggies, and roasted potatoes.  Desserts were meringues with vanilla ice cream and warm raspberry sauce!  It truly doesn’t get any better than that!!  YUM!  Back to Wicken about 8 pm after a lovely, relaxing day.  Not many photos, but more tomorrow, as we’re going exploring with Dan, Phil and the kids!  So!

Until then!

Much love,
